they're usually pretty good with offering to people who don't have the greatest credit score...if you have sufficient history, income and already have credit cards, anything above a 600 should be okay. don't take my word for it, but i've seen people who are in debt up to their eyeballs and likely have late payments get the card!

4/26/2012, my TU score is 724, they have their own scoring system which reduced me to 470 because of defaulted student loans, which led to decline for disproportionate debt to income rating.

had the account for many years and always paid on time.  Bill I planned to mail got lost (fell out of bag and I found it later and immediately paid online but to no avail). Was reported to credit agency for "30 days overdue"....the first negative I have ever had on my credit account (in 30 years).  This was for a $13.00 bill.  No warning given.

I was approved for the JCP CC 2/29/12..     My numbers were as follows: Credit Karma TransRisk 645, Vantage 736 & Auto Insurance 903/ FreeScore.com TU 645, Eqfx 629 and Exp 650...  For the past 2 years, I've been  a Orchard Bank and Public Bank card holder, both with a secured limit of $200.  I've paid each month on time and even began to pay more once I saw the positive impact to my credit.  Last night, I applied for two CCs and was approved for both ($2K CapOne) and  the JC Penny cc and was approved for $300 limit.  I plan to make one small purchase per month and pay each balance in full.  It would be hard to really shop with the limit given and only use 33% of the available credit but it puts me on a path to better credit.     I'll update my progress...  Apparently, JCP will increase your limit every 4mths or so with good payment history...  My history will be great since I plan to strategically purchase for the next few months...  I think I'll go for socks.   Hope this helps someone.

When I received my original credit card in 1981, I used it for necessities only - mainly because my wages were low and spending sprees were taboo.  In recent years my wages improved up until I retired.  My credit score has is very good, but I seldom use JCP card, and  the main reason is the interest rate of 23.99% and  The second reason is:  I'm a dyed-in-the-wool "buy American" advocate and it's hard to find many items that aren't made in China, Pakistan, Thailand, Korea, Mexico, et al. This isn't just targeting JCP - nearly every store in my area has a plethora of foreign goods at "huge-profit" prices.

Dont like how they gave me a 2000 dollar limit and then for no reason decide to cut it to 1000 . Believe it or not that affects your credit score without me doing anything . example lets say I opened it and charged 1500 dollars then pay it off. now my limit is 1000 . It looks like I over charged on my account but acctually I was 500 dollars under my original limit . Just another way the banks screw us. And now if I want my limit raised they have to do another inquirey witch will lower my credit score again. Thanks Big banks but Im on to your tactics

I got approved with a 639 CK score with a credit limit of $400. I have had the card for 5 months with no credit increase. It reports to all 3 credit agencies. I'm satisfied overall with the card and its services. Just checked my credit scores and I now have a 697 credit score from Trans union (639CK score). Can someone explain the difference in the two scores? I was under thimpression that CK used TU for its credit profile pull.

I think that the difference probably has to do with which credit bureau CK pulls to give you your score. BTW, request an increase every 3-4 months! Be sure not to use any additional credit obtained, but remember... higher limits and low util translate into a great score! :-) I'm at $4,900 on JCP after a little over two years of being a cardholder! AND I have a zero balance! :-)

I have been a J. C, Penney's customer for about 15 years always paid on time and had a great limit.  I maarried and changed my address and that changed everything.  They blocked my account because I changed my address online as they suggest.  I called to verify and because I remembered one of the security questions9( from about 20 years ago; an oldl address) right after they bypassed it they blocked my account another 30 days.  Called back after 30 days and because I couldln't tell them exactly how long a vehicle Ibought was financed they permanently blocked my account, that is a bunch of hogwash.  They told me to rea pply come on man (I just got mararied, bought a house, bought a vehicle - my limit would be almost $0), I guess it's a good thing this is not the only card I have.  If you decide to make any changes to your card have your credit report in front of you so you don't receive a block.  Strange as it is you question my address but you don't question the address when you receive the payment.

I've had a good experience with this credit card.  Its perks are not that great from my point of view, since the points system resets itself every month.  As a college student, having this card really helped me start to build my credit.  I use it for very small purchases at a time, and usually at CVS rather than JCPenney (yes, they accept this card at CVS and Rite-Aid).  The interest rate is awful, so definitely don't get this card if you don't plan to pay it off each month. I started off with a $150 CL in May when I got this card, and now that I've had it for 4 months and paid on time, they raised my limit to $1100 last week.  That, in addition to another card, raised my score to 720.  For someone with credit reports that aren't even a year old yet, that's not too shabby

I just pushed the CLI request button and got instantly offered $1800.  This card has definitely been good for my credit!  I also get coupons every couple of months from JCPenney for $10 off of a $10 or more purchase...usually I get as close to $10 as possible.  If you're tempted to overspend at JCP, this card might be dangerous for you...but otherwise, I see it as a super history building tool! Truth be told, I do plan to cancel this card at some point (probably once my other limits grow to catch up with this card).  But for now, no annual fee, good coupons, and an increasing limit are enough to keep this card in my collection.
