Denied. 693 CK score. $105k income. 3 other cards, no balance. I figured my chances were good, and I was looking forward to this card as I fly Delta often. It was not to be.

I just got one with a 690 Experian score. Seems to me this is the only one of the three bureaus that Amex checks. They must partner in some way.

I thought they only checked Experian too, but I just got approved and they checked TransUnion.

Approved. Experian 682, Income $150K+. I will only do business with Amex. Citi, Chase and Discover all lowered my limits during the down turn to within 10% of balance. Amex is the only company that didn't mess with my credit and didn't treat me like a third rate customer.

Amex lowered my limit to 10% of my balance during the downturn while the others left me alone, so they're not any better.

If you fly economy on Delta alot and tend to check your baggage, this may be a good card for you, since it waives the Delta baggage fees. If you intend to redeem Delta Skymiles for rewards tickets or upgrades, you will likely be disappointed. Delta seems to almost take pleasure in making it nearly impossible to do so, even when there are plenty of seats available on the aircraft. I've had this card for a little over a year now, and I'm going to cancel it because I'm tired of Delta's games. Caveat emptor.

Question: Many years ago, I had bad credit (irresponsible college student) Since then, literally all of my baddies have fallen off. I now have 2 secured cards with cap1 and bofa and my fake scores from "one of those free credit places" is 655 on all 3. Myfico.com says my file is too thin as I do not have any accounts older than 6 months, which I expected, since I only got the secured cards earlier this month. When Amex pulls reports for this or other cards, are they too going to see the thin file (no credit)? CK says my score is 673. I am assuming that I will likely get denided for this card. Does anyone think a recon would be in order if I am denied?

This is not the right card for you. Amex has high standards. I would try Capital One unsecured first.
