Ally Bank, renamed and re-branded from GMAC Bank in 2008, is an internet bank premised on being a “straightforward” bank with a consumer-friendly approach. Headquartered in Utah, Ally aims to set itself apart from other banks by offering simple, transparent financial products with competitive interest rates. Product offers include certificates of deposit, money market, savings, and checking accounts. Ally is best known for its high-interest savings accounts, No-Penalty CDs, and “no-fees” policy, as well as its popular advertising campaigns. Customer service includes live telephone service with an Ally representative.
Ally Bank is part of Ally Financial Inc., formerly GMAC (General Motors Acceptance Corporation) until the company was officially renamed in 2010. Ally Financial Inc provides banking, automotive financing, mortgage, business, and investment services.

I used Ally as my primary checking for several years without any specific problems, but their interest rates on checking account deposits have long ago fallen below the best rates available. I switched to Alliant Credit in pursuit of a higher rate, which seems in line with the national trend toward credit unions and away from the big commercial banks like Ally.

Free International incoming wire transfers. Amex bank does not even allow this. Better interest rate and easy to use.

Ally approved my auto loan when I was only 18 with no co-signer at 5% interest. They were wonderful everytime I had to call, and their online payments are easy to do. Overall, I had a great experience with them during the duration of my loan.

Best online bank...Never had a problem in 4 or 5 years and they have even credited my account when my physical bank charged me an ins funds fee because I accidentally did a double transfer leaving me with a negative balance...then they immediately transferred the amount back. I just want the rates to get closer to the 3% they were at when I joined but I understand the economy and fed dictates that...

They're GREAT! ALLY always has someone there when I need help and takes great care of my money. Some times when my account is getting really low they place funds on hold preventing me from acciedentally over drafting. Ally also checks when they detect any fraudulent activity wich is a bonus.

For the past four months, I have been trying to refinance my home mortgage. Working with Ally Bank has been an absolute nightmare. Our credit score is excellent, they approved our loan application, and in the interim, they have sent us three good faith estimates, missed the closing deadline, etc. Two days ago we received in the mail a form letter stating that our loan application was denied. Today we received an email stating our loan application has been approved and attached a commitment letter. You try to contact their loan and closing officers, and they refuse to return your phone calls and refuse to respond to emails until you actually threaten them with legal action. I'm done with this company and will be filing appropriate complaints with state and federal agencies.
